Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office could not resist the tempting offer from Green Bay, which ultimately sealed Micah Parsons’ departure. While this ended the offseason saga once and for all, Cowboys fans are already anticipating the noticable gap Parsons’ absence will create in the defense and in the locker room.

Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott, who faced a similar negotiation hassle last season, has revealed his personal feelings on the matter involving Parsons.

Dak Prescott Explains Micah Parsons Trade

Star QB Prescott dealt with a similar tiring negotiation last season with the Cowboys brass. He finally sealed the deal only after the first game of the regular season, making him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

Parsons’ case was more heated, though. It reached the boiling point when owner Jones publicly criticized Parsons’ production and availability, even though the star EDGE had missed only four games across his first four seasons while recording 12 or more sacks each year.

Matters escalated when Jones declined to negotiate with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, turning talks tense and unproductive. Prescott told Jon Machota of The Athletic that this breakdown ultimately became the deal’s tipping point.

I definitely didn’t think he was going to get traded. But just with the way their negotiations went down, obviously to some extent, hell, y’all were asking me questions, it seemed like it got personal on their ends, so that’s why I wasn’t surprised,” said Prescott.

Micah Parsons Contract

In return for Parsons, the Cowboys received DT Kenny Clark and two first-round picks.

The Packers not only traded for Parsons but also made him the highest-paid EDGE ever, a title that may never be surpassed any time soon. With this blockbuster contract, Parsons’ net worth is sure to soar to the next level.

In August 2025, the Packers signed Parsons on a massive four-year $188 million contract, including $136 million guaranteed. This contract makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The deal also exceeds previous projections as Parsons was expected to make around $40-$41 million annually based on his performance and market value.
