The Sanders family has a tight-knit bond, standing by each other in good and hard times. The Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has had the privilege of coaching both his sons at the collegiate level, eventually sending them off to the NFL. This is the first year without his sons on his team in years, so it’s essentially a clean slate for Coach Prime. However, his first game didn’t unfold as planned.

Sheduer Sanders With His Encouraging Words

After Shedeuer Sanders left the Buffaloes for the NFL, it created a massive void in the locker room, and more importantly, at the quarterback position. His father, Coach Prime, filled the void with two signal callers: Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis.

Camp and training revealed the value of experience, and Salter edged out Lewis to win the QB1 job. On August 29, the season opener was a test for Salter as the Buffaloes kicked off against Georgia Tech, and early returns, however, were shaky.

The Buffaloes fell 27-20 to the Yellow Jackets.

Immediately after the loss, Sanders’ father, Coach Prime, received a message of support from his alumnus. It was none other than Browns QB and his son, Shedeur Sanders. Taking to X Shedeur wrote, “They’ll figure things out. They have a great head coach.”

Even though Georgia Tech had a rocky start, which included three turnovers on its first three drives, the returning key players, QB Haynes King and RB Jamal Haynes, showcased their experience. Buffaloes jumped out early when new starting QB Salter connected with DeKalon Taylor for a touchdown, taking advantage of a Yellow Jacket’s fumble. However, Georgia Tech’s offense soon found its rhythm, leaning on its powerful rushing attack, which had been the second-best in the ACC in 2024.

King and Haynes combined for an outstanding ground performance, outpacing Colorado 320 yards to 146. Salter rallied late with a gritty rushing TD to tie the game, but the Buffaloes’ final drive stalled. The Yellow Jackets’ consistent rushing attack proved too much, handing Colorado a 27-20 defeat and marking their first season-opening loss since 2022.

This season appears to be a reset period for the Buffaloes and Coach Prime, with two of the star players, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, absent. Still, Shedeur predicts it might not be long before Coach Prime works his magic.
