The seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady’s transition from the field to the broadcast booth has been anything but smooth. His minority stake in the NFL team, the Las Vegas Raiders, limited how much he could truly bring fans behind the curtain. However, with the NFL’s recent major rule change, Brady’s role at Fox could soon evolve.

How the NFL’s New Rule Could Change Tom Brady’s Broadcasting Role

The league is loosening some restrictions on Brady as he enters his second season as Fox Sports’ lead analyst. Under the new rule, Brady will be allowed to participate in team production meetings, provided they are held virtually or via Zoom. However, he still cannot attend practices or visit a team’s training facility in person.

Previously, Brady was permitted to join production meetings with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles ahead of Super Bowl 59, but he wasn’t able to watch practices.

The ability to join and speak with coaches, coordinators, or players to help him prepare for his role felt like a natural step forward,” NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution Hans Schroeder told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

This rule change provides Brady with direct access to insights, enabling him to shape his analysis firsthand rather than relying on intermediaries. He can now bring the exclusive details from these meetings straight to his broadcasts.

Tom Brady’s Broadcasting Career

Brady kicked off his broadcasting career after Fox Sports announced that he would join the network as the lead color commentator on May 10, 2022. Fox also reportedly made him the highest-paid sports commentator in history with a 10-year deal worth $375 million. He made his broadcasting debut during the second quarter of the 2024 UFL Championship Game and made his NFL on Fox debut alongside Kevin Burkhardt. He was also a part of the Fox broadcast team for Super Bowl LIX.
