Shedeur Sanders, the promising NFL rookie quarterback, has suffered an oblique injury during joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 13, 2025. According to the Cleveland Browns, the injury occurred early in drills while Sanders was throwing, raising concerns for his upcoming preseason performance.
The injury comes as the Browns continue to battle health issues across their quarterback room during training camp. For example, Kenny Pickett sustained a hamstring injury on July 26, missed three practices, but has since returned to a limited capacity, participating in 7-on-7 drills.
Meanwhile, another quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, has also been dealing with hamstring tightness but recently continued practice and taking reps in team training for the second straight day. With Sanders’ injury, the quarterback room remains challenged as the team prepares for its upcoming games.
QB Shedeur Sanders’ Injury Puts His Preseason Game Status in Doubt
Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, had put on an impressive performance in the second week of preseason, where he led the Browns to a 30-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers on August 8.
Fans were super excited about his success in the upcoming game, but his recent injury has raised concerns about his participation. During practice, he watched his teammates engage in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills from the sidelines due to his discomfort.
Following a medical examination, the Browns have considered Sanders’ condition as day-to-day, allowing him to participate in the second joint practice scheduled for August 14. Furthermore, it appears unlikely that he will play in the preseason game against the Eagles on August 16.
A video shared by WKYC on X, formerly Twitter, showed Sanders wincing during his throws earlier in practice. Another photo from the session shows Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts giving Sanders a cart ride to the locker room.

Speaking to reporters later, Hurts shared his support for Sanders’ support for the rookie, stating,
“Yeah, I’d… I keep the conversation intimate. We had a very lengthy conversation”

Hurts further said,
“He came to me and wanted to talk. I’m always there to give my perspective on what I see and how I’ve gone about things. I’m supporting him from where I am, and I wish him nothing but the best with his opportunities.”

As the Browns prepare to face off against the Eagles on Saturday, August 16, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, there is a strong sense of hope and expectation among both fans and the team regarding Sanders’ recovery. Everyone wishes for a quick return to the field for this important matchup.
