As the final whistle of the training camp ends, so do the dreams of many hopeful athletes. Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Shilo Sanders had a similar case, who was waived ahead of the regular season. He recently took to social media to discuss what’s next for him.
Shilo Sanders Discusses His Future
Sanders signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Bucs coming out of Colorado. Heading into training camp under a head coach experienced in defensive back play, the rookie was expected to make an impression. However, missed opportunities and one on-field mishap killed his hope, and as expected, Tampa Bay released Sanders in their final roster cuts, trimming the team down to 53 players.
After the news broke, his father, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, shared his thoughts and discussed the potential next steps for Shilo’s NFL career.

“I’m proud of my kids, all of them, and I prepared my kids for anything that could possibly happen in life and in sports. He is mentally where he needs to be, physically where he needs to be. We’re praying that he gets another opportunity with a team. But if he doesn’t, the plans have already been put forward for what he’s going to do next.”
Making it clear he is not much concerned about Shilo’s future, Deion said,
“Shilo is a man of many talents, and he’s going to be straight. All the Sanders are going to be straight, with or without football, you better believe that. I take care of mine, and I always have, and y’all know what I mean.”
Shilo, on the other hand, had relatively stayed silent on the subject matter, but recently, using his personal YouTube channel, he discussed what he envisions for his future.
“I’ve been talking to my agent and we’re waiting on the next opportunity,” said Sanders.
“If that’s in the NFL, cool, but God has blessed me with a lot of talents to do other things other than play football, you know, and I feel like in every athlete’s life it becomes a point to where the game ends for you. And I’m not saying that’s what it is now. I’m just saying mentally I’m good because I know that I got a lot of talents and I’ve been blessed,” Sanders continued.
“I’m thankful for my family, my friends, and just my support system. I’ve been cool, I’ve been good,” Sanders continued. “The NFL is just, I mean, they call it ‘Not for long league,’ nothing’s ever certain, even if you make the team, it’s not certain.”
