The Browns’ quarterback competition has reached a fever pitch, and training camp is the battleground, especially for the rookies—every snap matters when four quarterbacks are fighting for the starter role. In the midst of all these, Shedeur Sanders has much to prove after a disastrous draft slide and the last name that hangs with him.
As he fights with all his will, fans cannot help but notice one glaring absence: his father, the legendary Deion Sanders.
Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders Reveals Why He Did Not Visit Shedeur
In the latest interview, which was more like a casual conversation, the Cowboys legend Michael Irvin sat down with Colorado Buffaloes head coach Sanders to discuss his medical journey, family, and more.
The 57-year-old Sanders opened up about his recent visit to his son Shilo’s training camp in Tampa, where he is working to secure his role in the Bucs roster for the upcoming season.
A long-time friend and sports commentator, Irvin, asked about his boys,
“When you watch boys right now, you’re saying you were going to have this first season without them on the field and you’re excited about it.”

Irvin further asked,
“Talk to me about the excitement of watching them in NFL. I saw you went and visit Shilo. Why you hadn’t gone to met him [Shedeur ]?”

Responding to the Ivrin, Sanders shared,
“He told me not to come. Let’s get that out. He told me he didn’t want me to come. He’s like, Dad, I may get three or four reps at practice. I don’t want you seeing that.”

Hall of Famer continued,
“I’m not where I need to be, let me get where I need to be.”

Respecting his son’s request, he chose not to visit him. He mentioned that Shedeur is handling it like a pro, and added, ‘Shedeur is like, I got work to do, but I’m going to put in this work.”‘
And Shedeur also told Deion to watch him in the preseason.
In contrast, Shilo welcomed his father’s support, where Deion attended the Buccaneers’ camp on July 23, 2025, to cheer him on.
Sanders chuckled and said,
“And Shilo was a totally obvious. Come on down there. You know, he was happy.”

Shedeur didn’t want his father to come during the training so that he could focus on achieving his spot without the added attention of his father’s presence.
Coach Prime is not worried about it because he has been with him since the first day and has supported him through every phase.
He is 100% sure his boys will succeed through hard work and dedication.
