Union Redskins - Two Time Defending Oklahoma 6A Football Champions

Redskins Repeat!

Tulsa World - Friday night’s Class 6A state championship game produced another big surprise in the Union-Jenks rivalry — the largest blowout in the seven title showdowns between the teams.

For the second straight year, Union defeated Jenks in the 6A final with Thomas Roberson scoring the touchdown that gave the Redskins a lead they never relinquished. This time, however, Roberson’s big play didn’t occur in the second half — it happened instead on the opening kickoff.

Roberson took a cross-field lateral from Jacob Rice and raced 76 yards to the end zone. Two minutes later, Union quarterback Chase Boyce scored on a 7-yard run and the second-ranked Redskins were on their way to a 52-19 victory over the stunned Trojans before 10,776 fans at the University of Tulsa’s Chapman Stadium.  Slide Show

USA Today - Chase Boyce rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another and Tulsa Union won its fifth Class 6A title in the last eight seasons, routing archrival Jenks 52-19 on Friday.

Thomas Roberson and Kale Pearson both returned kickoffs for touchdowns for Union (13-1), which avenged a 27-25 regular-season loss to Jenks (13-1). The title was the sixth for the Redskins and their second straight.

Sports Illustrated Says Union Among Nation's Elite

Sports Illustrated has released their list of the nations top high school athletic programs and Union is on the list at number 10.  No other Oklahoma schools made the list.  The ranking is based upon the success the Redskins had in 2008-09 winning state championships in many team and individual sports, including football.  Other factors considered are division one scholarships offered and other successes off the field.
